Co-head of the engineering group with a focus on directly leading the infrastructure and data engineering teams. As an engineering leader, my main responsibilities are recruiting, building an innovative engineering culture, empowering engineers to build and own great products, and mentoring team members. Other responsibilities include managing the reliability and scalability of our infrastructure, the availability and performance of our data platform, collaborating with other engineering and business leaders to create and maintain our product roadmaps. Our Data Engineering team was responsible for building and supporting a data platform built on top of Airflow, Spark on EMR, Redshift, Kinesis, and Kafka using both Python and Scala. Our Infra team built out a reliable and scalable infrastructure using Terraform, Puppet, and Packer. Using these tools they managed an infrastructure that included EC2, Kinesis, SQS, S3, VPCs, RDS, Redshift, API Gateway, and Kubernetes. In addition to leadership duties, I was also responsible for building the financial reporting services to share data with our investors and partners.

The Data Team at Earnest consisted of Engineering, Analytics, and Data Science groups. We were responsible for building out the data platform, developing the models for research and production, and supporting a broad range of business and product analytics needs. As Team Lead, my responsibilities included:- Mentoring and developing individual contributors and managers- Creating engineering career matrices to facilitate career growth- Lead planning of team's product roadmap in collaboration with stakeholders- Collaborating with engineering team to architect the data science model services- Working with the team to design and build the data platform.

The Data Engineering team was responsible for implementing data pipelines to fuel customer reporting, finance, business intelligence, and data science. Additionally, the team built and maintained its infrastructure in collaboration with the DevOps team.- Provided career and professional guidance to the developers on the team.- Provided technical guidance to the team in service of continuous delivery of features and milestones- Collaborated with business stakeholders to understand their needs enabling the team to deliver maximum value.- Key accomplishments of the team include the migration of the batch processing pipeline to Spark from MapReduce (Scalding), implementation of streaming pipelines to feed optimization models, and increased the reporting dimensions by 5X to enable more granular analysis by the business.

As an early member of the engineering team, I had the opportunity to build a variety of products across the stack.- Implemented an ad server in Scala to perform general second price auctions in real time (Handled >4K QPS)- Created API to allow 3rd party platforms to participate in the auction at the time of the impression- Built infrastructure to collect click-stream data from the client tech on the publisher sites leveraging nginx, flume, and RabbitMQ.- Implemented and maintained batch processing data pipeline built on MapReduce (Scalding)- Implemented CMS using Ruby on Rails to allow advertisers launch advertising campaigns and publishers to manage ad placements- Implemented iOS SDK to help publishers monetize native applications

Clinical stage biotech company dedicated to the discovery of next-generation protease therapeutics for the treatment of Hemophilia and Inflammatory diseases. Directly managed software developers and team of IT consultants to build software and create and maintain a scalable infrastructure.- Facilitated communication of projects from design and implementation through deployment and support of informatics tools that enabled members of High Throughput Screening, DNA cloning, Protein Purification, and Assay Development to perform research more efficiently.- Designed and implemented a proprietary web-based protease registration system allowing the research organization to capture DNA/amino acid sequences and protein lots.- Implemented web-applications to capture information describing the phage display platform including library creation, panning, and high throughput screening. Tools were built using a Java, jQuery, Bootstrap, BioJava tech stack.
