Engaaged as a Clerk in 1978, experience in Accounts and Purchasing. Cut my teeth on the shop floor being curious about engineering and manufacturing processes.The business expanded and grew significantly and my role expanded with it - working with the Sales Team and as PA to Chairman. Attending Exhibitions, Meetings, Manufacturing Discussions with Clients great days.I left in 1995 to have a family, and was asked to return 20 years later by the Chairman.Whilst raising my family I worked part-time in many different industry sectors,had my own Business Consultancy Business then trained to be a Learning Mentor in a High School.

A complete departure from my roles and experience as a PA, I changed direction to work in a high-school (11-17 years) with a school population of some 1250 pupils, I was the only Learning Mentor in the school. To prepare for this role I undertook Learning Mentor Training along with courses on Safeguarding, brain development and psychology. This was the most rewarding period in my working life finding I possessed a nautral affinity to encourage and motivate my pupils who were referred to me through internal and sometimes external channels.For the first time the "bottom line target" was not a number but the improvement of a young person's wellbeing and life-experience. Adpoting a humanist approach using solution-focussed programmes (developed with each young person) I had the privilege and pleasure in seeing my students' lives improve in one or more areas. I had a full caseloadx, working with students for maybe 6 weeks, and others the whole of their high-school journey. I was fortunate to work with some of the most dedicated professionals I have ever come across who became lifelong friends. When my children (twins) went to University, I returned to Industry for an improved salary to support their University years.Some of my cases were extremely sensitive and difficult, working with families suffering mutiple deprivations, I helped them to access services provided by the County and NHS, often attentding multi-disciplinary meetings with parents and participants from external services to identify issues, put plans into motion and measure outcomes. I created and delivered a term-long program to bring parents and children into the kitchen to cook a simple meal, all ingredients and recipe provided for them to do the same together at home, which was recognised by Ofsted.I was nominated by a parent for a national award as a result of my work with their child. In the future, at some point, I envisage working for the benefit of young people in some capacity.
