PRJ Distribution is a family-run import and distribution company. They specialise in goods for professional painters and decorators and have built a solid sales strategy focused on retailers. I was brought in to help them grow by marketing the firm's flagship brand: The Wooster Brush Company.I had to work hard to understand the stakeholders and historic culture of the decorating/trades industry. My fresh perspective helped the team develop new relationships to their end customers and new ways to promote the products and build loyalty. I made large contributions to meetings with the US-based supplier and major retailers such as Screwfix.Social media, market research, copywriting, strategy and media production. Being part of a small firm meant I covered every aspect of marketing. The largest success was creating a brand ambassador programme with six professional decorators around the UK.

Lockdown gave me the nudge to take an interest in carpentry and woodcraft up a level. I was attracted by the combination of practical, skilled work and technical understanding.I have produced several fitted and free-standing pieces of furniture, restored junk shop purchases and massively improved my confidence at improving and maintaining my home.I have combined my new skills with tools and timber with 3D modelling and project planning. My knowledge of design and craft history informed the aesthetics and material choices.I pushed myself to produce sellable pieces and work for clients. However, I realised that I would prefer to keep woodworking or my own satisfaction.

Coordinating the marketing campaigns, exhibition development and more for York's internationally-significant museums presents a complex range of challenges.In collaboration with other teams, we coordinated the award-winning relaunch of York Art Gallery, 1914-1918 centenary campaigns and community engagement projects.The work always returned to the organisation's mission to share knowledge and passion for cultural heritage. I learned to work fast: creating messages that were engaging, educational and attractive to visitors. We produced copy and visuals for the web, press and print output.

This role was created for me as a unique continuation of the Wikipedian-in-Residence programme. I expanded the collaboration across the whole county by working with the Museums Development service.This was part of a global initiative (GLAMwiki) helping galleries, libraries, archives and museums to work with Wikipedia, thus joining publicly/charitably funded knowledge repositories with the world’s 7th-most-popular website. I was tasked with negotiating relationships between the museums - from the National Media Museum to rural village-hall museums - and the Wikimedia community.I ran promotional talks and training workshops for museum professionals, volunteers and university students and worked with curators to develop strategies for opening up their collections and knowledge.

I worked to help York Museums Trust (YMT) share its digital collections, train staff and volunteers, and work with the Wikipedia community.I was also involved in the development of digitisation strategies. My contributions have aided in the development of YMT’s new public, online collection.

Enkyad Heritage Media was a start-up producing story-led 3D animations for archaeological and heritage sites. Illustrator Glenn Hustler and I led a team of dancers, writers, animators and other archaeologists.The team worked hard to develop a pilot film and accompanying exhibition but we never gained sufficient funding to deliver a satisfactory prototype.The challenges of the project forced me to develop better entrepreneurship and interpersonal skills, and be reliant on my own determination.

This means working at high-standards and speeds in collaboration with construction, services, quarries and farmers.As a field technician, I excavated, surveyed and processed artefacts.
