Bringing a modern aesthetic and innovative approach to a sector where these are much needed!I joined as a newly created Head of Marketing at a crux point for the company. Whilst my contributions were welcomed for lots of the long-term and medium-term challenges , the owners felt that they needed a different balance of skills for this moment in their business plan. -
Marketing And DigitalGardner And Scardifield Ltd Jun 2023 - Jul 2024Lancing, England, United KingdomI joined Gardner & Scardifield as their first marketing manager. The role reflected the increase in professionalism and strategic thinking at a business with deep roots and significant organic growth. The company runs nine builders merchants, five electrical wholesalers and three general hardware stores across Sussex. Plus specialist stores. The company is built on its people: while competitors in these sectors have raced to the bottom and often lost customer loyalty.Distilling this offer and presenting it to new customers - particularly online - is one of the key challenges the business faces.Co-managed the transition to a new website platform. Negotiating feature specifications, coordinating with three development teams and building much of the front end customisationCoordinated with suppliers and technical specialists to improve product data, selling copy, images and cross sellingI distilled and improved the presentation of the brand's identity through graphics, text, print media, website and social mediaWorked with managers and directors across the business to help them promote products, events and special offers to their customersAs a single-person department, coordinated these larger developments with day-to-day processing of web orders, customer service requests and print production -
Marketing ManagerPrj Distribution Ltd Dec 2020 - Jun 2023Shoreham By Sea, England, United KingdomPRJ Distribution is a family-run import and distribution company. They specialise in goods for professional painters and decorators and have built a solid sales strategy focused on retailers. I was brought in to help them grow by marketing the firm's flagship brand: The Wooster Brush Company.I had to work hard to understand the stakeholders and historic culture of the decorating/trades industry. My fresh perspective helped the team develop new relationships to their end customers and new ways to promote the products and build loyalty. I made large contributions to meetings with the US-based supplier and major retailers such as Screwfix.Social media, market research, copywriting, strategy and media production. Being part of a small firm meant I covered every aspect of marketing. The largest success was creating a brand ambassador programme with six professional decorators around the UK. -
WoodworkerStellion Makes Apr 2020 - Jun 2023Greater Brighton And Hove AreaLockdown gave me the nudge to take an interest in carpentry and woodcraft up a level. I was attracted by the combination of practical, skilled work and technical understanding.I have produced several fitted and free-standing pieces of furniture, restored junk shop purchases and massively improved my confidence at improving and maintaining my home.I have combined my new skills with tools and timber with 3D modelling and project planning. My knowledge of design and craft history informed the aesthetics and material choices.I pushed myself to produce sellable pieces and work for clients. However, I realised that I would prefer to keep woodworking or my own satisfaction.
