For more than 40 years, I have dedicated my life to working with businesses to improve the "business of their business" by enhancing their strategic, operational and financial performance. I’ve worked side-by-side with leadership teams and Boards to make important and substantial changes that objectively increase the value of the business. I’ve learned over many years and through experience leading companies in many different industries to view businesses systemically and holistically. All businesses operate in a value chain system and all practices and processes within a business operate in the context of an internal value chain. True game changing advances are only sustained when they are considered, developed, and instituted in this strategic context.I believe that the role of a business leader is to create value for markets, customers, and employees while providing rewards and returns to the owners of the business while making it difficult for competitors to keep up.From the time I entered St. Joe’s University many years ago, I knew it would take a combination of right-brain and left-brain skills to achieve the business impact I wanted to deliver. I earned both a BS in Accounting and a BA in Marketing and Management in my four years there.My roots in the Philadelphia area are deep. I was born and raised in Allentown, PA. Marie, my wife and I have three children. Interestingly, they are all entrepreneurs. We are proud grandparents who love and are inspired by the the newest generation. Some in my family might think I have had too many hobbies, but I have learned a lot through those hobbies, and importantly, have learned about myself and life through them. I am a golfer; though I was much better when I was a teenager, I persist. I have a pilot license and love to sail. I am a woodworker. Through sailing and flying, I have learned that you need to constantly plan for multiple scenarios and be situationally aware to detect changes in your environment. I have also learned that there are no options to getting back to the dock or safely landing the plane. Woodworking has taught me to plan for unexpected outcomes and how to respond to them to achieve the outcome you desire.
