Sometimes you just can't say goodbye. I relaunched my blog in October to give myself a creative outlet for my writing. This time around I've taken a more technology-centred approach to what I cover, focusing on video games, digital music, and social media. Like last time, this role is as much about writing as it is staying up to date with Wordpress, search engine optimization (SEO), CSS, and HTML.

With CP's pagination unit Pagemasters North America, I edited content, designed pages, and mapped out sections for a national newspaper client, The Globe and Mail, all while meeting strict deadlines. I crafted eye-catching, interesting and accurate display copy such as headlines and photo captions.As of October 2019, I served as Lead Editor, helping to oversee a team of up to 15 editors, serving as the point of contact between them and the client, and taking a final look at pages before sending them off for approval. I played a role in training new staff and produced how-to documents to help get them up to speed.

I wrote about arts and culture topics, drawing on extensive research to craft compelling blog posts. I used this for-fun project as a way to stay up to date on SEO best practices, as well as brush up on my HTML, CSS, and PHP skills. The content was mostly for myself and people who had followed my radio show, but one of my stories was picked up by JSource.

Peterborough, Ontario

I facilitated the weekly broadcast of 5-10 hours of programming, responded to challenges as they arose, and monitored broadcasts to ensure they were in accordance with Trent Radio’s license, Promise of Performance, and CRTC guidelines.I also produced a weekly show on topics relating to arts, culture, and technology, ranging from music to literature to video games. I thoroughly researched each topic and prepared a rough script prior to each show, which I delivered live. The show was interactive, so I adapted my script to listener input on the fly.

Peterborough, Ontario

I produced and broadcast 58 daily, interview-based shows that highlighted groups, events, and people important to Peterborough. I researched each topic to inform my questions and guide my on-air script. The majority of my shows were pre-recorded off-site, so I got the chance to work on a nearly daily basis with Adobe Audition. Working off-site also gave me the chance to visit the workplaces, studios, and businesses of interviewees, a perspective that would have been lost in a live-studio setting.I assisted the Summer Operations and Information Manager to oversee and coordinate over 50 volunteer programmers and executive producers.

Peterborough, Ontario

I assigned and edited content for a team of up to 20 staff and volunteer contributors each week, producing 51 issues as editor. I also led a pair of initiatives during the summers of 2013 and 2014 to bridge the gap between volumes through online-only summer content. I designed pages for print with Adobe inDesign. I also published content on the web and would routinely enhance it by embedding audio or videos. Using this web content, I developed the paper’s online presence on Facebook and Twitter in accordance with its identity and editorial voice. I ensured editorial co-operation and consensus prior to all major decision-making. No matter what I did, there was a deadline I had to meet, and I managed my time to ensure it was met.

I pitched stories on topics of interest to the Trent University students and the Peterborough community. I collaborated with other reporters and photographers on coverage of news and events. I maintained a list of contacts who could provide information or comment on stories.
