*** PROJECT ***As Head of R&D, Innovation and Content, I enjoy exploring new media, technologies and uses and then developing with my production and marketing colleagues, innovative, attractive and effective products for more engaging experiences.I am passionate about the experience felt by a user during a technological and social activity that conveys emotions such as virtual reality or video games. My approach is human-centered to provide the best practical solutions to a given problem.I am particularly interested in products highlighting Content or having a social and environmental impact. I therefore have a predilection for intelligent entertainment, education, training, awareness or mediation.*** EXPERIENCE ***Having obtained a PhD in computer science in the field of virtual reality in 2009, I have been immersed in virtual reality for nearly 20 years. First researcher and teacher at the university, then 5 years Head of R&D, Innovation and Content at XIWEN studio and recently, 3 years Co-founder – Director of R&D, Innovation and Content of SYKO studio. Considering human factors in mediated activities is the common thread of my R&D activities. Thus, my work is centered on the computer component but also integrates perceptual, psychological and cognitive dimensions.-> ResearchGate: www.researchgate.net/profile/Patrice_Bouvier-> Google Scholar: https://scholar.google.fr/citations?user=JU_X0lsAAAAJI taught for 4 years at the IMAC engineering school of the UPEM (in programming and algorithmics, web programming and databases). I also taught for 2 years at the IUT SRC of UPEM (in networks and services on networks, operating systems and computer architecture).Since 2014, I annually review research papers submitted to the CSEDU conference (International Conference on Computer Supported EDUcation). Occasionally, I evaluate articles submitted to the journals Simulation & Gaming, UMUAI or IJTHE (International Journal of Technologies in Higher Education).*** ASSET ***Versatile, my transversal skills mean that in addition to R&D, I got involved in sales, marketing, HR and graphic design. My soft skills are an asset to make projects succeed.

Co-Manager Of Vr Studio LdlcVr Studio Ldlc May 2023 - PresentDardilly, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France -
Co-Founder Of Syko Studio, Director Of R&D, Innovation And ContentSyko Studio Nov 2019 - Oct 2022Villeurbanne, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, FranceSYKO studio developed experiential training products in virtual and mixed reality and low tech for the hospital and HR sectors. As at XIWEN studio, my missions listed below were multiple but, being a co-founder, with even more entrepreneurial intensity in business development and management, and in human relations.- Understand the client's needs and expectations and propose the optimal solution- Appropriate the theme and the content to be covered in our products- Lead and supervise the design and development of the solutions- Define, coordinate, and finance R&D and innovation- Recruit salaried and trainees developers- Participate in the company's strategy and in sales and marketing activities- Raise fundsExperiential training is much more than learning by doing, it is learning by experiencing. It is first and foremost a situation in which the learner makes decisions, makes mistakes, understands and corrects. This, under the trainer’s watchful eye. This first stage of situation setting is then completed by a debriefing phase. The trainer uses the experience to initiate an exchange and reflection by and with the learners. This approach places the two actors, learner and trainer, in a central position in the training.

Head Of R&D, Innovation And ContentXiwen Studio Sep 2014 - Nov 2019LyonXIWEN studio developed digital and physical projects such as video games, virtual reality and escape games. Our objective was to impart knowledge and skills, to amaze or to entertain through an immersive, playful and engaging experience. My field of intervention at XIWEN studio was wide. For example, on a training project using virtual reality simulation of a transfusion incident, I was involved in the pre-sales phase to present possible technological solutions to the client, then as project manager. My job was to understand the client's needs and expectations, and then to guide and supervise the design and development of the solution in order to best meet them while respecting budgetary constraints. On scientific mediation projects, escape game on Mars or the extinction of bees, I was in charge of documentary research and participated in the game design.I was also in charge of structuring the R&D, for example by setting up ANR research projects with academics, and of financing the R&D with tax credits and grants.I was also involved in the marketing discourse accompanying our products and even took on the role of sales representative for certain calls for tenders such as that of the CNRS LPNC laboratory in Grenoble for EVAsion games on tablets that facilitate reading skills. Finally, on a daily basis, I carried out a scientific, technological and usage watch and participated in the definition of the company's strategy.

Postdoctoral Position (User Research) Within The Quejant Project (Silex Team, Liris)Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 Feb 2012 - Apr 2013I was working as a post-doctoral researcher within the QuEJAnT project (qualification of players' engagement from an analysis of their traces) which gathers the SILEX Team (LIRIS Laboratory, Université de Lyon, France) and the digital games companies Corexpert, Intellysurf and KiniroMy aim in the QuEJAnT project was to propose a qualitative approach to identify players' engagement and qualify their engaged-behaviours from their traces of interaction in entertainment (player) or serious (learner) digital games. The extracted knowledge can be used by designers and practitioners both during the development phase (to analyse, design and validate the digital game) and after its release (to adapt and personalize the game). The results (defining of the approach, designing a prototype, testing and evaluating) obtained during the QuEJAnT project have been published in one French conference (IC 2013), two international conferences (CSEDU 2013 where we received the Best Paper Award and ICALT 2013 ) and two international journal (UMUAI and Simulation & Gaming). -
Phd In Computer Science (Virtual Reality)Université Paris-Est Marne-La-Vallée Sep 2004 - Dec 2009My PhD lies in the area of virtual reality and has been completed in the computer graphics team from Université Paris-Est.My PhD aimed to understand the sense of presence, to model its emergence and to propose some solutions to tend towards it.Research on presence and on virtual reality is, for me, particularly attractive because it helps to understand how humans perceive and comprehend their “real” environment. Moreover, as a "present" participant will almost have some similar behaviours and responses, whether the environment and the situation are real or virtual, I consider presence as the fundamental added value of virtual reality. This explains why most of my PhD is focused on presence in virtual reality. And this, both at a theoretical level:- unified and comprehensive model of presence, key concepts : credibility, affordance, unconscious judgement, embodiment of the role dedicated by the activity;- action presence as a fourth dimension of presence;- design framework for activities in virtual reality;and at a practical level:- design of virtual environments and devices for virtual reality;- means and methods in order to tend toward presence;- ecological algorithm for computing sound reverberation in virtual environment;- phase of evaluation to validate the various proposals involved my model of presence. Keywords : virtual reality, sense of presence, credibility, affordance, ecological approach, perceptual rendering -
Research Engineer In The Terra Numerica ProjectUniversité Paris-Est Marne-La-Vallée Sep 2008 - Aug 2009During the last year of my Ph.D, I was a research engineer in the Terra Numerica project(http://www.competitivite.gouv.fr/spip.php?article636). This project, of 4 years duration and approved by the Cap Digital Competitiveness Cluster, brings together 17 public and private partners and aims to create a geographic information system structured around the digitisation of Paris region. My task was to design a virtual reality prototype using an autostereoscopic display. I have written the specifications of the prototype and then, participated in the development of the system based on OpenSceneGraph:- Loading of a COLLADA scene representing the fifth arrondissement of Paris.- Handling of the autostereoscopic rendering.- Use of a Wiimote as a navigational tool.I have also co-written the technical specifications of the sound rendering system and took part in numerous meetings and demonstrations as PRIT (professional) and Future en Seine (general public). -
