An astute, dynamic and strategic communications leader, I have worked in a variety of industries in the public and private sectors, managing corporate communications, media relations, stakeholder engagement, public policy, advocacy and crisis communications. I bring this diverse experience to my role as Chief Communications Officer at Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), which provides sustainable, accessible, community-focused transportation options that are innovative, environmentally responsible, and promote the vitality of our region. I work with a talented team and oversee the areas of internal and external communications, marketing, community outreach, creative services and customer service.I believe it’s important to inspire and empower team members. One of the best compliments I ever received was from a former employee who said, “no matter what the situation, crisis, or opportunity, Patrice offers the perfect mix of guidance, encouragement and inspiration.” I hope that is always true.Throughout my career, I have taken advantage of every opportunity afforded me. That openness has resulted in many enriching experiences that have been lauded and awarded. My work has touched internal and external audiences, including employees, influencers, elected officials and media. Additionally, I have worked collaboratively with physicians, patients, advocacy groups, trade associations, policy makers and regulatory agencies on a host of health care public relations activities. I have been integrally involved in defeating three California ballot campaigns (in 2018, 2020, 2022) aimed at changing staffing ratios and the financial structure of dialysis centers. As a communications and public policy leader at California’s largest nonprofit dialysis provider, I was part of a coalition working to protect access to care for kidney patients. Additionally, I helped lead the rebranding efforts and digital presence for the California Kidney Care Alliance (formerly California Dialysis Council). I also served as co-executive producer of an Emmy-nominated television series titled, City Walk that promoted exploring cities and venues by foot. The show aired monthly on KCET and its national cable affiliate LinkTV, reaching more than 60 million households. I have been successful in securing story placements on a host of topics in major outlets such as NPR, The Economist, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Huffington Post, Politico and the Dr. Oz Radio Show. I always enjoy hearing from former colleagues and making new connections.
