I’m a historian of American religion, specializing in liberal Christianity, Protestantism, and Quakerism. I write for general readers as well as for academics, and I’m an experienced editor. My scholarship explores culture and practice, including unofficial theology, devotion, visual and material culture, and sense of place. My public engagement is primarily in the nonprofit space. A few years ago I served with AmeriCorps VISTA, working mainly on grant-writing and fundraising for community-development projects. More recently, I’ve provided background research for the public-facing programs of a large land-trust organization. I also share my skills through communications, fundraising, and workshops in various settings.
