    The YWCA Sojourner’s Education/Job Readiness Center provides opportunities to ensure long term self sufficiency for individuals including veterans who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless and are residing in Charleston, the Kanawha Valley and surrounding areas. Services are provided in a fully handicapped facility, with up to date technology, professional staff, and user- friendly instruction; all services are free, regardless of place of refuge.At the Readiness Center (RC), clients are provided career services ranging from career and job search, resumes, cover letters, help with online applications, preparation for interviews and other job readiness skills. We have a strong network of partners with employment agencies and HR hiring managers at many local businesses. This has allowed the RC to expand services to include job placement. If a client is deemed to be ready for gainful employment, The RC will assist the client with job search and job placement. If the client is deemed to need additional training services, then The RC staff reviews the clients service plan and makes adjustments and refers the client to the other core partners based on the needs of the client. Training services may then be provided by The RC, DHHR, Goodwill, WVDRS, and/or Adult Education Services. This integration of service delivery provides our clients with more access to core partner services. In return, many of our Core Partners make frequent referrals to the RC. As a Core Partner, we have gathered data about the current strategies and resources devoted to basic skills development; researched the current and projected needs of employers; learned about promising practices for system redesign; and engaged diverse stakeholders in conversations about improving adult learning opportunities and results. This infrastructure has helped to ensure that local employers can count on us to send solid candidates to interview and place into employment
