Ms. Halstead is a fifth generation Nevadan, fourth native born. She graduated from high school in Sparks, Nevada, and is a proud graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno. During law school, Ms. Halstead externed for Justice Miriam Shearing of the Nevada Supreme Court; the American Gaming Association; the Arlington, Virginia Prosecutor’s Office; and for the United States Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Judicial Oversight and the Courts. Ms. Halstead then served as a judicial law clerk to three outstanding members of the judiciary. In 2001 Ms. Halstead joined Hale Lane, nka Holland & Hart, and practiced commercial litigation. She also handled a number of appeals and appeared before both the Nevada Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Wanting to gain more trial experience, Ms. Halstead joined the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office in 2007 where she began practicing criminal law, working her way up to large scale felony cases inclusive of open murder. In the span of approximately four years, Ms. Halstead took fifteen matters to jury verdict and received guilty verdicts in each matter. Ms. Halstead now owns and operates Halstead Law Offices where she works as a general practitioner with an emphasis on probates, estates, and general litigation. Ms. Halstead is a member of the State Bar of Nevada, the Washoe County Bar Association, and the Bruce R. Thompson American Inn of Court, and a former member of the Northern Nevada Women Lawyer’s Association and Rotary Club of Reno. Ms. Halstead has taught Mock Trial, Constitutional Law, and Criminal Procedure. In April 2014, Ms. Halstead was appointed to serve on the Standing Committee on Judicial Ethics and served the Committee through becoming the Chairman in March 2020 through December 2021. Ms. Halstead currently serves as a member of the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline and is a Nevada Bar Foundation Trustee as well as a Trustee for the Washoe County Law Library.
