The Schlumberger Legal Counsel (Department Head) is an integral member of the Management Team with primary responsibility for ensuring the provision of legal and compliance assistance in support of operations. The Legal Counsel is charged with the management of, and is accountable for, the appropriate handling and resolution of all legal matters, including but not limited to Litigation, Corporate, Consulting, Contracts and Compliance. Some of the essential responsibilities and duties:- Drafts, reviews and negotiates legal and commercial documents including agreements, contracts, MoUs, letters of intent and others - Handles complex commercial contracts and disputes - Interacts with other departments ensuring involvement in all matters that may bring legal exposure to the company- Provides guidance to ensure all business activities are carried out in compliance with local laws and regulations - Implements and monitoring of compliance with Corporate Policies, Standards and Procedures and legal and regulatory obligations- Participates in compliance incident reviews and undertakes Operations Assurance Reviews (audits)- Manage and ensures the "integrity" of local Schlumberger's corporate structure, entities and records - Provides overall legal advice to Management and is actively involved in business plans, complex transactions, growth strategies and operations as part of the Management Team- Manages Outside Counsel being responsible for litigation strategies and resolution - Strictly controls external costs (legal fees and expenditures) and internal costs related to the function's impact on P&L- Drafts and implements local procedures, guidelines and templates - Assists with the development of Legal Department Strategic Initiatives and is actively involved with their deployment and implementation - Assists with the development of the Legal Department training and development initiatives and completes all assigned legal and compliance training

As a Sr. Attorney, I am a member of the GeoMarket Legal Department who, under the supervision of the Legal Counsel, assists with the provision of legal assistance, management of Compliance matters and advice in support of GeoMarket operations. The Attorney position in Schlumberger is considered a key development assignment where the lawyer is trained, tested and developed to take on a Legal Counsel role. The essential responsibilities and duties of my current position are:a) Handling of day-to-day/routine legal consults from several areas of the company;b) Handling of day-to-day/routine commercial contracts and contract's disputes;c) Management of corporate matters and all legal entities (creation, merger, liquidation,etc.) in Brazil and Uruguay; d) Litigation management and advise in all areas specially in labor, civil, commercial, corporate, real estate, administrative and environmental;e) Management of the Compliance Program, including trainings, investigation process, risk assessments, audits and others;f) Interaction with all other GeoMarket support functions and departments ensuring Legal Department's involvement in all matters that may have a legal impact to Schlumberger; g) Provision of legal support to operations in order to ensure compliance with local regulations and Schlumberger Code of Conduct;h) Implementation of procedures, practices, guidelines and templates set up in a global level; i) Management and supervision of outside counsels/law firms, including budget control;j) Moderate involvement in business unit planning and operations as part of the Management Team;k) Participation in assigned Legal Department Management strategic initiatives;l) Management of internal Legal Systems such as Legal Sign, Legal Knowledge Management System, Corporate Database and othersl) Supervision and coaching of Jr. Attorney positions and Legal Interns.
