Working under Dr. Timothy Donais to complete specialised research and writing as a part of his larger SSHRC project, ‘All Means Necessary’? Civilian Protection Strategies in Contemporary Peacekeeping.Research objectives:-To map and analyze the emerging ‘protection toolkit’ and the evolving range of strategies – both military and civilian – through which UN missions have attempted to protect civilians;-To assess the potential, and the limitations, of non-coercive protection strategies employed by UN Missions, as well as the ways in which Mission assets – both military and civilian – can complement each other in the search for more effective protection strategies;-To analyze the manner in which PoC mandates (and especially the gap between expectations and performance) have impacted the relationships between peace operations and the populations they are mandated to protect, and to assess how insights from the ‘local turn’ in peace and conflict research can inform more effective collaboration and communication across the divide between peacekeepers and the ‘peacekept’.

• Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture: prepared briefing notes, drafted and edited news releases, compiled cross-jurisdictional research on tourism investment, and prepared the Minister for lines of questioning.• Research and Communications, Government Caucus: prepared speaking notes and speeches for MLAs, drafted news releases, miscellaneous research and communication support for the caucus.
