Growing up, I always knew I'd go to college—not because both my parents had, but because they instilled in me the value of education. Little did I know that this choice would lead me to become a passionate advocate for student success and educational equity. My undergraduate years were a time of rapid expansion and self-discovery. Navigating the "hidden curriculum" of higher education as a first-generation college student was undeniably challenging, but I welcomed the opportunity with open arms. I immersed myself in every aspect of campus life—from conducting independent research with faculty, to taking on internships, running the student employment office in our student union, to pursuing two majors and volunteering in the multicultural center and women’s center. This complete immersion shaped my experience and deepened my love for the university environment.I still vividly remember winning the "Catch a Rising Star Award" from the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals. Observing the professionals in that room, I knew I had found my calling. Later, while working alongside an exceptional mentor, I began to reimagine and change how student services could be delivered more effectively and equitably on my campus.Today, as the Founder and Principal of Higher Ed Insight, I channel my inherent researcher's spirit into addressing real-world challenges in college access and student success. My work as a speaker, writer, and research consultant allows me to dive deep into understanding the needs of low-income student populations and expanding educational and employment opportunities for marginalized and disadvantaged youth and adults.I'm driven by the belief that every student deserves the opportunity to discover their potential, just as I did. The family or community one was born in should not predict or limit their life potential. I have managed major projects focused on college access and completion, bridging the gap between insights and applications. By combining rigorous research with a collaborative approach and compassionate understanding, I seek to create actionable strategies and pathways for success in postsecondary education. Whether you're passionate about educational research, student success initiatives, evaluation or innovative approaches to college access, I'm always eager to put my skills to work. Let's connect and explore how we can partner to make education more accessible, equitable, and empowering for all students. (202) 412-9732psteele@higheredinsight.com
