Just completed my MSc in Climate Change, Environmental Science and Policy at Kings London. Dissertation Abstract:The transition of domestic heating in the UK from gas to electric power, and the use of heat-pumps, has been identified as a major component in the Net Zero Strategy of the UK government. Similar transitions have already occurred in Sweden and Switzerland. However, despite policy commitments and targeted subsidy programs, the rate of transition falls short of meeting the 2050 deadline. I argue that the current slow rate of adoption is due to an intersection between the subgroup of population who are engaged with the climate crisis, and the innovators and early adopters of new technology, who together constitute a minority. Referring to the diffusion theory of innovation, adoption will only accelerate if we can make heat-pumps acceptable to the majority, who are motivated by a lower-risk proposition with rational and economic cost, aligned with a societal norm. This requires change in three areas: establishing a professional industry and standardising installation costs and times; continued government support through both subsidies, explicitly divided into separate programs for energy-saving measures and for boiler upgrades and the implementation of regulations that mandate heat-pumps in new build property and for retrofitting; and most importantly, reform of the electricity pricing structure, so heat-pumps deliver both energy saving and cost savings. Failure to establish heat-pumps as the norm for home heating risks a failure to transform domestic energy and threatens the overall net zero target. Senior Data and Privacy Professional. Six years experience with Capgemini Data Practice. Including lead role in the Capgemini Quickstart Data Governance implementation program. Over 10 years experience as a senior strategic business analyst at Syngenta, the leading global agrochemicals and seeds company with specific expertise in supply chain process design and management. Strong managerial background and proven ability to establish and maintain working relationships internally and internationally. Programme manager for tax compliance programme and SOX implementation. Original thinker who has developed new company strategy with global application for RFID and barcodes. Delivered policy change working with the Fair Labor Association, an external NGO. Looking for a non-Profit Opportunity where I can combine my experience with joining a team that focusses on making a difference.
