As DVP of Professional Exchanges, I oversee several international exchange and leadership development programs for adults that focus on intercultural understanding, leadership skills, and professional networking. I direct World Learning's team for the implementation of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), the Professional Fellows Program, and several other projects that are funded by the U.S. Department of State. I also lead strategic planning and new business development for global programs, writing or overseeing proposals that have resulted in more than $50M in grants. I supervise a terrific team of 45 talented programmers who ensure our programs are high-quality and smoothly implemented, emphasizing experiential learning.World Learning is a global not-for-profit organization with educational and international development operations in more than 75 countries. Through its international education programs, World Learning fosters global citizen-activism by connecting over 100,000 participants across geographic, cultural, political and economic distances and differences. For more than 90 years, World Learning has built a deep and diverse array of effective programs and services that transform individual lives and strengthen the capacity of communities and institutions to address pressing global needs.

I designed, implemented, monitored, and evaluated educational study and training programs for international visitors participating in the U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program. Projects ranged in size from one to twenty-five visitors from every region of the world, on a wide range of domestic and foreign policy topics.

Upstate International (formerly The International Center of the Upstate) is a nonprofit organization devoted to promoting cross-cultural understanding among local and international residents of Upstate South Carolina. As the first executive director of the International Center, I directed the daily operations, programs, events and meetings. I was responsible for developing services and programs to increase the organization's value to the community. I managed the organization on a shoestring budget with creative resource management. In particular, I designed and executed a development plan that tripled donations, increased membership, and raised the public profile of the organization. With a team of 80+ volunteers and staff, I planned and implemented classes, programs, social events and business services. Since its inception in 1999, people from more than 75 countries have participated in programs and events at the International Center.The International Center also supports Upstate South Carolina as an important hub for international investment and trade. The Upstate is home to more than 230 international companies and boasts the highest level of international investment per capita of any region in the U.S. In this role, I consulted with international companies and economic development entities to support international investment in the region. Passionate about cultural diversity in my community, my most important role was to serve as an advocate for the region's international residents and the 30+ ethnic organizations in Upstate South Carolina. My efforts were recognized with several awards for my service in promoting international diversity and cross-cultural understanding.

I have edited journal articles and book-length manuscripts for professionals in a variety of fields. From 2001 to 2003 I wrote biweekly op-ed columns for The Greenville News (South Carolina) on a variety of subjects, ranging from local issues to social commentary. I also have edited websites for nonprofit and for-profit organizations for content, SEO, and social media implementation.

While at Clemson, I taught composition and literature courses to 250+ students. I was responsible for course design, daily lecturing, and grading. This position was contract-limited to one year.

At UCSB, I taught literature and composition courses to 150+ students per year. I planned and conducted weekly classes, lectures, developed instructional materials, and graded papers and exams. I was nominated for teaching awards three times. I also worked as a consultant in the Teaching Assistant Development Program, where I advised instructors from various disciplines on how to improve their teaching style and pedagogy. For this role I received extensive training in pedagogical theory and practice, teaching skills, and advising. I also organized a weeklong departmental training program for 30 new teachers, developed and led training workshops, and co-produced a 150-page handbook on teaching tips and resources for new teachers.To support my work, I received several grants to fund my research and instructional development.
