In August 2021 Self Help Africa as part of the Gorta Group has merged with @United_Purpose - doubling our portfolio, broadening our scope of work in countries in Africa and expanding our work to incorporate programming in Brazil & Bangladesh. Part of my updated role will be to support the integration of our processes, ways of working and help us to build a united team from the now 700+ staff of the merged organisations.

Self Help Africa is one arm of The Gorta-Self Help Africa Group - includes Partner Africa, Trutrade and Traidlinks - all mobilised to support farming families and promote rural enterprise development. Ituri, Eastern Drc

Interim support to the country team - women's empowerment, humanitarian, peace & conflict programming as well as livelihoods work in a fragile and insecure context.

A member of the CUSO management team leading the work in Africa. The program priorities were Economic and Enterprise Development, Health, and Gender Equity & Social Inclusion within a context of environmental sustainability. Volunteering and voluntarism is a key approach promoted within all CUSO programs. The Africa program involved partnerships and activities in DRC, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Benin and Tanzania with emerging work in Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique. We ran four significant programs in Africa; VOICE, a core global program funding work in all our program offices; T-Led, a CAD$15 million enterprise development initiative in Tanzania; You lead, a CAD$15 million enterprise development initiative in Nigeria; and Midwives Save Lives, a CAD$13 million maternal health program implemented in Benin, Cameroon, Tanzania and Ethiopia.

Ethiopia

I led and managed a team of 25 to deliver a €5m programme of the three international Catholic Development Caritas Agencies of England & Wales (CAFOD), Scotland (SCIAF) and Ireland (Trocaire) - working with over 30 national partners, including faith based organisations, to implement development and humanitarian interventions in Ethiopia. The development focus is on Sustainable Livelihoods, HIV& Gender,and Civil Society Strengthening. I am responsible for the in-country implementation of the Ethiopia Single System Project which aims to deliver a results orientated programme drawing on the organisational and programmatic strengths of the three agencies. I am a member of a number of networks
