I say there is no lack of work…especially if you volunteer your time and skills. And I’ve done that, a lot… my whole life. In my senior year of high school, I recognized this inclination in what would be a bit of foreshadowing. Sitting in a National Honor Society meeting, I leaned over to whisper to my friend, “Don’t let me raise my hand.”While raising my family, I volunteered in the classroom, with the PTO, and for youth athletics, holding many leadership roles. I was honored to serve nine years elected to my local Board of Education and four years appointed to the Connecticut Commission on Children which later expanded to include women and seniors. Currently, I serve on my local library board of directors. I embraced the work of the board of education broadly and deeply. I read as much as I could, visited schools, joined committees, and attended events and conferences. When it was time to discuss, debate, and vote, I was prepared to advocate for what would best serve our students. I became adept at research, writing factual and persuasive statements, public speaking, reading budgets, collaborating across agendas, listening to constituents, policy development, understanding curriculum, supporting staff, promoting success, and more.So while I did “raise my hand” many times, I received as much as I gave. This year, though, I decided to pivot from mostly volunteer to writer for hire. Along the way, the constant to my experiences has been my ease with research, writing, editing, and proofreading for a variety of audiences. This spectrum includes corporate copywriting, local journalism, and board level communication to internal and external constituents.I believe I can help small businesses, community organizations, school districts, municipalities, associations, nonprofits, and individuals to improve communication with their audience. If I work for you, I will become invested in our partnership and promise to add value. If you or your organization would like my help with writing, editing, or proofreading, please contact me at pqueen478@gmail.com or ask me to connect here.
