My passion for playing soccer prepared me for my future career in human resources, as it required assessing the current situation, anticipating future moves, setting up my teammates and passing the ball to score a goal. In short, I learned there is usually more than one way to get to that goal and teamwork is essential. But a team still relies on the skills of its individual players, and I believe I have added two valuable strengths to the companies for which I have worked. The first strength is my solid knowledge of Talent Management, Organizational Development, and Relationship Management. This was acquired from my outstanding mentors, teachers, and coaches through the years who were committed to my success and imparted their knowledge and experience in the functional areas of human resources to me. The second strength is an innate ability to gain the trust of management, employees, and external parties. Being available and approachable to everyone definitely helped that process. But more importantly, it was my commitment to consistency in my assessments of employees and actions taken that made me a “bellwether” over time for employees, CEOs, special interest groups, and state and federal agencies alike.Today, while my days as a soccer player may be over, I still seek a team looking for success, especially one that recognizes and believes employee retention, coaching, teaching, and mentoring will lead it there.
