The California Data Collaborative ("CaDC") brings together leading water utilities and top class data science talent to save money and water. I helped grow our core partners from 6 to 14 utilities and built a lean 3 person data science team along with over 50 low-bono supporting interns and research fellows. Together we: -Won the "moonshot" award in the 2018 California water data challenge and honored as a leading project in the 2016 Obama White House Water initiative.-Produced analytical results featured in Harpers magazine, the Associated Press, KNX news radio and other news outlets.-Helped partner utilities save over 20 million dollars in avoided capital costs and inform the optimization of over half a billion dollars invested in turf rebates.-Developed new applied statistical techniques to measure water savings that were published in the world leading journal the Annals of Applied Statistics.-Led the development of SCUBA, a best-in-class public data warehouse that standardizes and automates the standardization of metered water use at the most granular, end user level. -Developed research partnerships with Stanford, UCLA, USC, and over a half dozen more universities to enable applied research using SCUBA data.-Automated the estimation of water saved from water conservation programs, providing an often missing yet critical measure of cost effectiveness. -Envisioned, developed and launched a first-of-its-kind water data collaborative, initially with six water utilities and grown to 14 utilities serving 23 million Californians.
