The general purpose of my job consists of conducting fire investigation to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Upon determining the cause of the fire the undersigned must then determine if the fire is accidental or incendiary. After determining the cause of the fire, I must conduct a criminal investigation including interviews, sketches, collection of evidence, and analysis of the fire scene. In the event that there are fatalities involved in the fire an investigation into the death of the individuals must be conducted as well. Also in the event of a successful criminal investigation I must present the case to the courts and follow up with court room testimony. I also must complete paperwork including reports that must be approved by the immediate supervisor, daily activity log sheets, and criminal complaints. I also must have fluent knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Office and online BATS data entry that is used for office reports. I have also trained other personnel in using these programs for the purpose of criminal complaints and report writing.
