The Blenner lab utilizes synthetic biology and metabolic engineering to address problems in human and environmental health. As a postdoctoral researcher, I worked to develop novel directed evolution methods for non-conventional yeast to help establish more sustainable means of production for chemicals, fuels, and materials.

The Schmitz lab studies the structure and function of bacterial proteases. I designed and implemented high-throughput, cell-based assays that aimed to aid our understanding of how these enzymes recognize their substrates.

Additionally, I worked on the development of a selection-based screening method for the directed evolution of proteins using cell-surface display techniques that coupled protein-protein interactions with cell survival.
