Patrick Beaton is currently enrolled in the SD43 Level 1 Electrical Apprentice Program with Camosun College. Patrick has learned how to run and cut EMT, splice, tie and cut Lumex. Patrick has also learned boxing. Patrick’s goal is to complete his Level 1 as an Electrician Apprentice and continue to work towards obtaining his Red Seal with an electrical contractor. Patrick is planning to attend BCIT to obtain his Levels 2-4 and complete his Red Seal as an Electrician. Patrick’s greatest strength is his work ethic. In all his secondary classes over the past four years at Charles Best Secondary School, Patrick has won the Super G award. This award is given to students who have demonstrated good work habits consistently and shown resilience. A good work ethic is important to the electrician trade because you must work hard and to a high standard. Being resilient is important as an electrician as you work in many different environments that are always changing and you are required to constantly learn new things. Throughout his life, Patrick has played many sports including ice hockey, baseball and ball hockey. Patrick has learned many valuable lessons from sports such as how to work together with other people, how to overcome challenges and how to be flexible. Over the years, depending on the needs of the team, Patrick has played every position except goal in hockey and every position in baseball. Patrick has also volunteered with Coquitlam Parks and Recreation in various youth programs and youth camps. Volunteering has taught Patrick to have excellent interpersonal skills, patience, and flexibility. These communication skills are important to the electrician trade because in this trade you will work with many different people in several trades in different environments. Over the past few years, Patrick has shown that he can work hard with his super G award, work well and be flexible with a team in sports and demonstrated strong intrapersonal skills through volunteering. These traits all make a candidate better than the rest.
