Growing up on a small family farm surrounded by national forestlands, my interests have always been in the intersection of agricultural and natural ecosystems and how changes due to scientific discoveries and agricultural policies affect the flora and fauna of those systems. My undergraduate work in biochemistry and molecular biology; graduate work in plant biotechnology, policy and ethics; and post-doctoral research in agroecological systems, bioenergy development, and policy have all furthered my goals to understand factors influencing the interface between human-managed and natural ecosystems across scales ranging from the cellular to the landscape. I now work to share that knowledge with the broader community and helping people connect with the agroecological systems that feed, cloth, and fuel our society.
