My uncle Fred Blum was an ASA National President and ASA Hall of Famer. He was on original committee in 1969 that started the process of getting softball into the Olympics. My mentor and close friend is 2 time Olympic gold medalist Dr. Dot Richardson. Have worked over 40 softball camps sin e 1990.

This includes outreach on an International level of the success of reduction of pesticide use to 10% and a biological/ organic product use of 90%. This lead to CAGC becoming the highest environmental award winning golf course in the United States. Including work with environmental organizations like Audubon International, NYS Pollution Prevention Unit, EPA Performance Track, NYS Environmental Leaders, NYS Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey, Cornell University Turf and Ornamentals Pesticide Workers and Health Survey and University of Massachusetts Turf IPM Program.

Turned around Softball program that had 8 winless seasons in a row. Began by donating new softballs and gear to replace outdated equipment. Including certified bats. Set up workout program, dynamic warm up, drills, and practices with specifically designed for softball. Came up with game designs that were original for both offense and defense. Put together off season volunteer work outs and Sandlot Softball games. Set up pitching and hitting clinics. Worked with several players that played for summer tournament ball. Went as far as to bring softball field up to safety standards with removal of cemented bases, removal of glass and rocks from infield, total rennovation of skinned infield with addition of surface conditioner. Removed 3rd year team from off site practice field that was deer tick infested due to new field construction. By third season had sectional all star players and conference wins. And forced school district to raise budget of softball program to title lX standards. I want to personally thank every player over those 3 seasons that sacrificed for the future rise of that program. You were the true heroes.

I worked under my father who was course superintendent for 35 years. I started in hand Bunker maintenance at the age of 8. As time went on I moved into general maintenance which involved greens, tees, fairway and rough mowing. I moved onto irrigation specialist and pesticide applicator. Worked with Cornell Cooperative Extension in the early 80's on studied of control of Japanese Beetles Grubs and pond vegetation control using Tri-Ploid Carp. Became a second assistant at the age of 15. This experience laid the ground work for my future success in environmental maintenance of golf courses.
