38 years experience in polyolefins research and development spanning: olefin polymerization catalysis, polyolefin structure-property relationships, membranes for lithium ion batteries, synthesis of new polyolefins including comb-blocks, bottlebrushes, and a host of functional polyolefins largely accessed through efficien production of vinyl terminated polyolefin chains, new product design, markets such as flexible plastics packaging, hot melt and pressure sensitive adhesives, stretch cling films, and automotive. I made important technical and business contributions to the commercialization of Exact, Exceed, and Enable metallocene polyethylenes. Sales of these resins exceed 1B$ annually.Extensive experience with characterization tools; these include surface science tools such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). I am knowledgeable in the uses of a variety of other catalyst and polymer characterization tools and interpretation of the data.Following my career at ExxonMobil Chemical I have begun to work with others on the utility of Proxxima ROMP technology in oil and gas applications. These include deploying Proxxima to stop oil well blow-outs where the blow-out preventer has failed and more recently pursuit of the use of Proxxima to plug abandoned oil and gas wells. I have also undertaken research on novel composites (both model structures that provide new insights into composite interfaces and development of new coupling agents based on aluminum for competition with classical dominant silane and siloxane coupling agents. Finally, I provide technical advice and assistance to a start-up, A2O, in Vancouver, B.C. the is working on commercial applications of catalytic hydroalkylamination initially pioneered in the Schaefer group at UBC. I have over 70 peer reviewed publications, and 170 granted US patents. Extensive experience in patents and patent litigation.
