Dr. Patrick Brill has composed numerous classical-style compositions including a cappella vocal works, instrumental chamber compositions, symphonic orchestral pieces, and compositions for both choir and orchestra.In the fall of 2009, Dr. Brill was commissioned by Jonathan May, director of Florida Young Artists Orchestra, to compose a large-scale orchestral work. This work resulted in the Grand Overture in 2010. In 2010, he was also commissioned by the Bach Festival Orchestra and Choir of Winter Park to composed Christmas music for the 2011 season. His composition/arrangement entitled: Veni, Veni, Emmanuel was premiered on December 10, and 11, 2011 as part of the Bach Festival’s A Classic Christmas: Seasonal Music. It was subsequently performed for the same Bach Festival venue in December of 2012, and December of 2013. Veni Veni Emmanuel was also recorded for a CD of Christmas selections with the Bach Festival Choir entitled: All is Bright: A Choral Christmas.Dr. Brill also published a virtual instrument digital recording of his Royal Coronation Overture on CD Baby in 2012, and a CD album of a mixture of live and virtual instrument recordings entitled: Ave Maria, Bach/Gounod, and Other Works by Bach and Brill. The album was published on CD Baby in 2011. He also has recordings of his compositions on his Youtube channel: Patrick Brill.Dr. Brill holds a B.A. degree in Philosophy from the College (now University) of St. Thomas, and a B.A. degree in Music from the University of Minnesota, where he studied piano, music history, and music theory/composition. He earned a Master’s of Music in music history from the University of Northern Iowa, and holds a Ph.D. in historical musicology from the University of Kansas. He has published a book on sacred music and authored serval musicological articles.Dr. Brill has taught music history at the University of Kansas, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Rockhurst College, Valencia College, Barry University, Columbia College, and Eastern Florida State College. He currently teaches music history at Valencia College in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Brill has also taught private piano, as well as music theory/composition for many years.
