At Barr I work on a variety of projects dealing with watershed modeling, plans and specifications, AutoCAD design. Several of the projects I am involved with deal with low impact development and Best Management Practices. I have received Construction Stormwater training, XP-SWMM training, Civil-3D training. Past projects include:Maplewood Mall Phase 4 - designing rainwater gardens, end islands, and stormwater improvements to reduce impervious area and treat at least 0.5" of rainfall. Mouse River Feasibility Study and Phase 2/3 Construction Plans - Initially helped assessing interior drainage and pump sizing - currently designing box culvert levee penetration, as well as project wide cost estimating.South St. Paul Flood Control System Improvements - Construction plans and observation of levee improvements including slope repair, gatewell and pipe abandonment or relining, gate and pump station improvements.

I started at Habitat for Humanity as a house month volunteer on Nov 30th 2010. As a volunteer I spent 1-3 days/week helping build a home in Minneapolis. I worked on insulating and creating a vapor barrier, framing headers, installing sheet-rock, laminate flooring, painting, hanging doors, trim work, and other tasks.As someone dedicated to the civil engineering profession I want to improve society by promoting communities and the environment. Although my part on the home project was small it gave me great satisfaction. I meet people from a variety of backgrounds, shared life stories, and worked towards a common goal.

St. Anthony Falls Lab provides research in fluid mechanics, storm-water, and numerous hydrologic projects. At one time during my employment I was conducting testing research for 4 graduate students working on separate projects. The majority of my work focused on storm water sampling and BMP sediment collection and retention. I designed and tested new sampling manifolds to work with ISCO automatic samplers. The key element I designed was an aluminum wing that allowed a sampling manifold, hinged at the upstream end, to rise and fall depending on water column height. Other research I conducted was on stormwater BMP's such as Downstream Defender, EcoStorm, V2B1, and MnDOT Standard Sump. I designed a miniature model of the MnDOT sump consisting of a single speed pump and pipe network that allowed for either circulating or non-circulating flow. I helped design and performed all preliminary testing on a porous baffle (SAFL Baffle) that virtually eliminated scour at low and high flowrates. The SAFL Baffle is already being installed in several sites in the Twin Cities area.

Worked on a crew to excavate damaged underground utility lines (power, phone, gas). Jobs were most commonly located on road construction sites. I met with locators and construction professionals on site to determine a strategy for successful completion of projects.
