CORPORATE ENGINEERING MANAGER: Darling Ingredients is a producer of Feed, Food and Fuel. I was requested by executive management to build joint ventures with Valero (Diamond Green Diesel) and Intrexon (EnviroFlight), reporting to the Boards of Directors of each joint venture.• Developed new technology to build the EnviroFlight business by first designing and building a $4 million Pilot Plant proving commercial viability. Building a joint venture with Intrexon, newer technology needed to be developed and modeled for EnviroFlight’s first commercial facility for scale-up with mass and energy balances, financial proformas and risk analysis. Then designed and built the first EnviroFlight $25 million commercial production facility negotiating contracts with vendors and contractors. Managed and trained operations staff toward hiring and developing fully functional subsidiary production unit.• Designed and built new technology hexane oil extraction process for secondary protein nutrients having micron particle size.• Engineered pretreatment for a $400 million Diamond Green Diesel renewable fuel project, which I was rewarded for by Darling’s Board of Directors at the quarterly meeting.• In each case, staff was evaluated and trained into highly efficient production teams.• Programmed PLCs and HMIs and started up over 12 processing plants.

VICE PRESIDENT: GreenShift is a start-up provider of clean technology solutions for which I spearheaded the biodiesel business unit, engineered unit operations to improve biodiesel systems and developed technology for an extraction process resulting in 20% yield improvement.• At the request of the GreenShift President, I took over, managed and turned around a failing company to advance the core objective of becoming a premiere supplier of renewable energy with budget development and profit management.• Developed new technology for production facilities.• Programmed PLC and HMI automation and control systems for explosion-proof processes.

CORPORATE ENGINEERING MANAGER: Producer’s processed cottonseed with de-linting, de-hulling, preparation, hexane cottonseed oil extraction and refining and meal production. This was a new position created by the company President after learning of my process engineering, instrumentation, automation, PLC and HMI programming experience through mutual references.• I improved efficiency by 4% worth $2 million annually with automation, process improvements and PLC and HMI programming using standard and fuzzy logic programming.• Worked with operations management to create operating technician training programs for the explosion-proof process, protecting workers and limiting company liability by assisting with process safety management.

PLANT ENGINEERING MANAGER: This Kraft / Nabisco facility produced confections with soft and hard candies.• I developed a variety of engineering initiatives to lower costs and played key role in day-to-day operations working with the Plant Manager, Quality Manager, Maintenance Manager and Production Manager to improve operation of Drying Rooms, Environmental Systems, Starch Operations, Panning and High-Speed Packaging. The facility was closed due to NAFTA regarding sugar and labor cost.

PLANT and PACKAGING MANAGER: Due to success of the Owensboro Grain facility, I was recruited as Plant and Packaging Manager by ConAgra to design, build and manage a $225M Wesson Oil and soybean meal production facility that was cancelled due to reorganization by upper management.

PLANT MANAGER: Owensboro Grain is a producer of products from soybeans. As Plant Manager, I designed, built and managed an automated edible oil refinery and shipped 750 million pounds worth $150M in 1997 annual sales within specification without customer complaint and generated $500,000 in annual savings through development of new process technologies (now industry standards).• I developed the functional description for automation, managed technician hiring interview strategy, wrote a technician training manual and implemented a skill-block compensation system for high performance teams. The company president noted these efforts by stating “if you were purchasing a 747, would you hire an untrained crew to fly it”.
