Worked under PHD Candidate Matt Whalen for his research as part of the ZEN project which analyzes different aspects of the biology surrounding eelgrass around the world. My work included sifting through samples of eelgrass to sort out the large grass stalks from the small organisms that live inside them. I recorded the length and mass of grass present in each sample. I also shifted the remaining organisms through a column of sieves to classify size differences between them. I then used a dissecting microscope to identify and record the number and type of organisms in each size category for each sample.
