Patrick joined Haseltine Lake LLP in 2007 and is an Partner of the firm. He is a UK and European Patent Attorney and a European Design Attorney. During qualification, Patrick was awarded the Moss Prize for achieving the highest marks in the patents papers of the UK Patent foundation examinations.Patrick obtained a First Class Honours degree in Physics from the University of Nottingham. During his degree, Patrick developed a diagnostic tool for the aerospace industry which used nuclear magnetic resonance to identify debris in engine oil. After graduating, Patrick worked as a Project Leader for a specialist engineering and welding company, developing electron beam processing and welding techniques for defence, automotive and nuclear industry clients.Patrick works with clients ranging from individual inventors to multinational corporates. He particularly enjoys advising clients regarding their approach to intellectual property and its exploitation. He has successfully implemented procedures and provided in-house training for clients in order to raise awareness and maximise the capture of intellectual property.Patrick drafts and prosecutes patent applications covering a wide range of technologies in the mechanical engineering and electronics fields. In particular, Patrick works for clients in the oil and gas, aerospace, automotive, biomedical and renewable energy industries. Patrick also advises clients regarding design matters and is experienced in devising effective filing strategies. He represents clients directly before the UK-IPO, the EPO and OHIM, and coordinates the filing and prosecution of patent and design applications around the world. Patrick also regularly advises on both infringement and validity issues regarding both patents and designs and has managed a complex patent infringement action in the US.
