Born in Singapore and studied Industrial Design in Australia, Patrick has been developing projects that explore the inter-relationship between human, objects and space. This is reflected in his early work, which were produced and distributed under the Squeeze Design label and also later with his long-term collaborator, Time and Style. These principles are further expounded in the work he has developed at the Design Incubation Centre, which he is the founding director. Established in 2006, the Design Incubation Centre identifies and conducts research in emerging design domains and develops new tools and processes which aims to explore and expand the of possibilities design practice in Singapore.Projects developed by the centre has been published extensively and has been exhibited at venues such the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the AMC Siggraph. The collection of table top objects developed by the centre under the d.lab brand has been represented by major galleries and retailers around the world and was awarded the Design of the Year at the 2010 President Design Award.Patrick has served both as jury member and jury chairs for various competitions and awards such as the Red Dot Design Awards, James Dyson Award, Singapore President’s Design Award and the Singapore Furniture Design Award. In 2013, Design Incubator: A Prototype for New Design written by Patrick was published by Laurence King Publishing, UK. Patrick was awarded the Designer of the Year at the President’s Design Award 2013 for his body of work, which includes his design practice, research and teaching. The President’s Design Award is Singapore’s most prestigious design accolades conferred by the President of the Republic of Singapore.In 2021, he is started his new role as a Lead Principal Investigator at newly founded Singapore Airlines -Nation University of Singapore Digital Innovation Corporate Laboratory, focusing on wellness, comfort and in-flight experience through a data driven design approach.
