• Control and calibration development of physics model based control for 9 speed automatic transmissions. - Control logic design using Simulink - Validation and testing of control logic. - Gearshift clutch-to-clutch calibration• Calibrated 8 and 9 speed automatic transmissions for vehicles of an OEM to meet customers’ requirement in terms of drivability, durability, reliability, fuel economy and emission. The work includes: - Development of gear shift and torque converter lock-up schedules; - Pressure calibration of gearshifts and the torque converter;• Calibrated a 9 speed automatic transmission using Automatic Calibration for Transmission Methodology on a powertrain dyno; -

• Calibrated 6 speed automatic transmissions for vehicles of Ssangyong, Mahindra and Mahindra , Geely and Great Wall to meet customers’ requirement in terms of drivability, durability, reliability, fuel economy and emission. The work includes: - Development of gear shift and torque converter lock-up schedules; - Pressure calibration to control gearshifts and the torque converter; - Testing and calibration of vehicles under various conditions including cold, hot, high altitude, uphill and downhill; - Testing calibration robustness.• Developed control strategy for automatic transmission in gear shifts and torque converter clutch control, diagnostics, engine torque control, adaptive control and more, and perform strategy validation.• Developed control strategy for 7 speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) in clutch and synchronizer control under various conditions including creep, launch, slip, gear shift, diagnostics and others, and perform strategy validation.• Managed prototype vehicle calibration projects for Ssangyong, Mahindra and Mahindra, Geely and Great Wall involving establishment of timing plans, arrangement of prototype vehicles, coordination and communication internally with colleagues and externally with customers, and performing various administrative tasks.• Developed test procedures and engineering standards for transmission development .• Performed in-vehicle powertrain tests, evaluation and validation.• Hands-on jobs include setting up of test facilities and equipments, tear-down, rebuild, removal and installation of transmissions.• Wrote technical reports for transmission tests and calibration activities, including 8D report.

• Developed a multi-dimensional CFD model for the pre-heating, diesel fuel injection and combustion simulation using Star-CD. The work included: - Pre-processed the model which included creating a computational mesh, defining the boundary regions, and setting up the combustion model and injection model; - Performed simulations with different initial and boundary conditions and with different model parameters; - Post-processed the simulation results to produce presentable output such as images, graphs and animations.

• Involved in the research and development of a waste energy recovery project. The work included: - The establishment of the experimental set-up for the research of gas engine waste heat Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) system;- Performed feasibility study on various types of heat exchangers in order to explore the possibility in the design and manufacture of low cost heat exchangers for ORC system. A model was developed to calculate the heat transfer of spiral-coiled heat exchangers.

• Developed a multi-dimensional CFD model using KIVA 3 for the combustion simulation of an advanced high speed spark ignition engine; investigated the effects of various factors affecting the combustion to better understand the combustion process of the engine and thereby provide insights on its improvement. The work included:- The use of a user unfriendly, specialist research computer CFD modeling package KIVA 3;- Pre-processed the model: the development of a computational mesh to meet the modeling package’s specifications;- The development and incorporation of routines for imported data;- Developed a multi-step combustion model;- Developed routines to address the effect of near wall flame quenching;- The tuning of the model for engine simulations;- Performed sensitivity analysis to uncertain engine input parameters;- Performed simulations for various engine configurations and proposed improvements in engine design based on the enhanced understanding of the combustion process of the dual ignition system.• Wrote comprehensive, confidential reports on data findings, analysis and results for the industrial client.
