I am a geoscientist and enjoy learning about our Earth, and sharing my knowledge of Quaternary geomorphology and history. I teach classes in introductory and historical geology, Earth surface materials and processes, glacial and eolian geomorphology, Quaternary geology, geophysics, and engineering geology. My current research focuses on the Quaternary history of landscapes in the Great Lakes region of North America. I also work with media producers, museums, park departments, and educators on various educational and scientific projects concerning landscapes. My geological experiences are in the following regions: Great Lakes, New England, and Central Lowlands of the United States. I have also worked on research projects in the Tibetan Plateau region of China. I welcome collaborations in my area of interest for both basic and applied research, and consulting projects. It is always nice to hear from former students and classmates!Specialties: Geomorphology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, remote sensing, geographic information systems, radiocarbon, cosmogenic radionuclide exposure dating, optically stimulate luminescence dating, paleomagnetism, and ground penetrating radar.

My current research focuses on the geomorphology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, and geotechnical properties of glacial sediments. I especially enjoy working with students on individual and team research projects both as part of my classes, and individually on externally funded research. I'm very proud to say that our geology and Earth science majors at GVSU are top-notch. Most go on to excellent graduate programs and/or work in industry. Our department has a long history of producing leaders in the geosciences.

I enjoyed working with many excellent students while at NU. While at NU I was lucky to be able to lead and co-lead oneand two week long, field trips to Iceland (1997 & 2000), Colorado Plateau (1998), and Newfoundland (2001). I also led numerous field trips to Boston Harbor (Long Island, Nantasket, Nahant), the White Mountains, eastern Pennsylvania (Valley and Ridge Province), New York (Catskills Mts., Palisades), and Connecticut River Valley (Triassic Rift). I am especially happy to reconnect with former students and hear what they are now up to. -
