The Manager Operations provides strategic support to the Director of the Centre, Professor Sabina Knight AM, MICRRH including actively seeking additional grant funding to support infrastructure expansion across the MICRRH region. The Operations Manager oversees the daily operations of the Mount Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health (MICRRH) network. The incumbent oversees community relations and ensures infrastructure, resources, finances, services and the administrative functions of the Centre support the current and future strategic and operational needs of MICRRH.The incumbent provides detailed financial management and leadership in managing the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy, coordination of MICRRH infrastructure development and facilities management.As a unit within the Division of Tropical Health and Medicine (James Cook University) it encompasses human and animal health professional areas and related biomedical science disciplines. The Division has a particular focus on the health of rural, remote and Indigenous Australian communities and tropical medicine.The Colleges of the Division include: Medicine and Dentistry, Healthcare Science, Public Health, Medical and Veterinary Sciences.The Centre is located in Mount Isa with nodes in Cloncurry, Burketown, Weipa and Longreach, MICRRH serves the large geographic region of outback Queensland. As a small academic department with a broad range of responsibilities within the rural and remote health and education sector, our mission is to lead excellence in remote, rural and Indigenous health in outback Queensland.

Recruited to transition, advise & assist the Corporation post a lengthy period of 'Special Administration' so as to ensure the Corporation ongoing was manageable, sustainable, credible & financially secure, delivering for the Garrawa people of Robinson River & the surrounding outstations.During this time notable achievements included:# New Financial Services Agreement with ALPA (Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation);# New Store Management Agreement with ALPA for the operation of the community store;# Awarded of the Community Development Program (CDP contract) from 1 July 2019 for 5 years to deliver CDP in the community & the surrounding outstations;# Co-ordinated with the Dept of Housing (NT) re delivery of replacement dwellings, the construction of new additional dwellings & the commencement of the refurbishment phase of the Housing Renewal program upgrade# Successfully applied to the McArthur River Mine Community Benefits Trust for the grant of application funding (circa. $160k) for the installation of upgraded shade sails for the Creche facility;# Collaboratively, constructively & successfully submitted to the Northern Land Council 4 s19 Land Use Agreements: 1. New s19 over the Robinson River Grazing Area (the cattle station grazing area of the Garrawa Land Trust which lease lapsed during the period of former Special Administration); 2. New s19 whole of Garrawa Land Trust Mustering Agreement (providing co-ordinating authority & responsibility to the Corporation for the conduct of the whole of Land Trust Cattle Muster; & 3. New s19 over Lot 64 (the area allocated as the Sports Oval/Recreation area & Lot 99 (the Mechanical compound) to allow for the expansion into the Land Trust of Lot 64 to enable construct of a new AFL Sports Oval & related buildings/ammenities & infrastructure. Total capital cost >$1.5M of which already secured. New 500 meter section of sealed roadway past the power station & total reseal the road-surfaces in community >$1.5M.

Managed the development of the first site specific MRM Sustainability Report in 2008;Lead the development of MRM's initial Sustainability (HSEC) System in 2007;Established effective working relations with the Traditional Owners and other leaders of the Borroloola Community approximately 60 kms east of the mine-site (900 kms south-east from Darwin);Participated in the Northern Territory Resources Council (then Minerals Council of Australia, Darwin Division) and the Minerals Council of Australia committees driving outcomes in Indigenous employment and training under an Australian Government Memorandum of Understanding;Led the negotiations an implementation of the MRM $32 million Community Benefits Trust to support the economic and social development of the mine region;Oversaw the construction of or provision of the new Borroloola Pool complex, the Borroloola renal health unit facility and the new x-ray unit for the Borroloola Health Clinic; and Managed issues pertaining to legal challenges to the approval of the $110M open pit development of the former underground zinc operations and re-channelling of the McArthur River around the new pit development. McArthur River Mine was named 'Australian Mine of the Year 2008'.
