In addition to helping keep the District's demographic and performance data accessible and up-to-date, I also did consulting-style work for various stakeholders within the District including the Superintendent, the Board of Education, and parent and community organizations. In response to requests from these groups, I pulled and cleaned data (using statistical packages such as R or SPSS if necessary) and performed any analysis and visual interpretation necessary to answer the stakeholders' question completely. I also assisted in various other information-gathering efforts, including surveying and education policy research.

The Hague Area, Netherlands

As an intern in U.S. Embassy The Hague's Office of Political and Economic Affairs, I was responsible for researching and writing memos on local political happenings, policies, and international affairs to inform the Ambassador and my supervisors and prepare them for events and meetings. I also wrote daily briefings for Washington on the most pertinent news from the Netherlands, and helped manage the office's timely response to requests from both Washington and the Ambassador. I had the opportunity to meet with a variety of Dutch officials, and some of these meetings informed cables I wrote on the Dutch retail sector and the operations of the Port of Rotterdam.

One of my primary responsibilities as an intern in the Peace Corps's placement office was the daily management of our applicant database, including initial review and processing of applications and also data cleaning and reorganizing in anticipation of a major update to the department's application process. I also handled the processing of candidates' legal background checks with the Office of Personnel Management. My capstone project was a review of the office's customer service practices, which culminated in a presentation of recommendations for improved customer service under the Peace Corps's new application process.
