In this role I help identify and onboard carbon projects and project developers; conduct due diligence on a broad variety of projects including nature-based solutions (REDD+, IFM, ARR), reduced energy use (improved cookstoves, water purification), and CCS (carbon capture and storage in biochar); and advise on strategy and technology for SustainFi's online platform.

Director of Conservation Planning and Ecosystem Management for NatureServe, an international non-profit organization specializing in the conservation of biodiversity (www.natureserve.org). Dr. Crist oversees a variety of programs including conservation planning, the EBM Tools Network, and the NatureServe Vista decision support software. His work includes development of methods and toolkits to fit organizations planning needs and working with clients and partners to conduct ecological assessments and integrated planning for areas ranging from local government jurisdictions to large regions.

Developed and managed a $3.5M annual program budget; coordinated research and RFP application process; oversaw and advised state Gap Analysis projects including site inspection visits; coordinated with NGOs and federal agency partners; developed program standards and methodologies and developed and maintained a set of guidance volumes; and developed tools and approaches for implementation and data distribution. Special projects included conceptual development and project management for two decision support systems and reserve analysis for Lewis & Clark Trail for DOI Secretary's office.

Duties: making contacts and arranging cooperative efforts with state and federal agencies, tribal governments, NGOs, institutions, and individuals; writing agreements and proposals and producing quarterly newsletters and progress reports; presenting the project to scientific and public forums; managing a staff of graduate research assistants; representing the project at conferences; monitoring and advising on budgets, GIS mapping and modeling techniques.

Duties: Managing the design division of a design-build firm; supervising five-person staff of landscape architects including scheduling, estimating, accounting and budgeting, hiring and termination, and reviewing and approving all work.
