Patrick Nolan is a Chartered Civil Engineer, responsible for leading detailed structural analysis on complex infrastructure projects. Patrick is interested in the digitalisation of the construction industry and has been involved in creating bespoke digital tools to automate complex analysis on his current projects. He is looking forward to exploring how innovative digital solutions can be implemented more widely in our industry.Patrick joined Atkins in 2009, after graduating from the University of Bristol with a masters degree in Civil Engineering. Initially he worked in the Atkins Energy team, where his work was predominately based in the defence nuclear sector. During this time he worked in both designer and technical client roles, including supporting the construction of the first Class 1 Nuclear New Build project in the UK for 25 years as a site engineer, and overseeing the installation of upgrades in the containment vessel at Sizewell B power station.Patrick achieved chartership with the Institution of Civil Engineers in 2016, and moved on to a senior role in Atkins’ Advanced Technology team. This role has allowed him to develop his ability and interest in detailed finite element analysis, particularly for seismic design and assessment.
