I reported to a Colonel Commander Medical, a British Doctor.This was effectively a multi-site organisation spread across a large geographical area providing service support 24/7. I was the focal point for Food Safety, Environmental Protection and Health & Safety at Work. This required me to co-ordinate between the Military, the UK authorities and the German agencies.

I was the sole Environmental Health Officer in an International Corps Headquarters based in Germany. Working alongside all NATO nationals to provide preventive medicine advice during planning and to deploy with the HQ on operations. This appointment required me to promote positive safe working cultures in a multinational environment.As an additional duty I was appointed as Officer Commanding the service stewards at the All England Lawn Tennis Championships at Wimbledon where I commanded around 700 staff drawn from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force together with London Fire Brigade officers. The organisation controlled access to all show courts for the Wimbledon Fortnight. I continued in this position for five years handing over in 2007.

I was responsible for the management of a training establishment in Germany. The sole provider of Preventive Medicine training for the British Army Germany. With a staff 5 Military and 1 civilian an annual throughput of some six hundred students totalling 3500 student hours.I formulated training policy in conjunction with HQ 1st UK Division and United Kingdom Support Command. The courses undertaken include all aspects of operational hygiene for Soldiers and Officers. Subjects range from water purification, field sanitation, pest control and food safety for caterers including cleaning technology. Health & Safety At Work Training: risk assessment, noise at work, management, manual handling. Display Screen Equipment, First Aid, Safety Signs, Fire Risk Assessment etc. I was also the senior lecturer for Food Safety, cleaning science and law. As head of establishment I was liaised with civilian awarding bodies such as BTEC, CIEH and the British Safety Council for recognition of our training and the accreditation of our courses with external qualifications. The management included the full range of duties: regulating quality of teaching, development of instructors, maintenance of real estate and budget manager. The development of training materials and regimes. Determining the technical content of the courses run and assessing students for awards. As part of a large training organisation I also provided the focal point for environmental protection, health and safety and food safety for Sennelager Training Centre. Co-opted member of the British Forces Germany Health and Safety steering Group as a specialist advisor on health and safety training. Achieved civilian accreditation, introduction of internal and external validation of training.I was deployed to Kosovo in June 99 as Medical Force Protection Officer KFOR. This was a NATO deployment and once again I was working in an international and muti-national setting.

Port Health Officer and Environmental Health Representative to Falkland Islands Government Board of Health. Implemented a system for prioritising health and safety inspections based on risk.
