Global White Sugar ManagerLouis Dreyfus Commodities Jul 2007 - Oct 2014Geneva Area, SwitzerlandReporting to the Global Trading Manager, led a global trading team of 12 with the mission of re-building the white sugar-trading book. Managed an exceptionally profitable book, trading 2.2 million tonnes per annum at its peak.• Directed the trading strategy of the global whites physical and derivative positions, disseminated key price drivers to the Global team and strategy outcomes to the senior stakeholders. Continuously reviewed accuracy and assumptions of the supply/demand and trade flow balance sheets. • Built the essential destination trading business in Middle East and Africa, engaged with Group rice and coffee structures in Africa to explore the business development opportunities that led to the gain of a 20% market share of the Brazil to West Africa flow. Developed Dubai a regional sugar hub for our white sugar trading activities.• Formed and directed the multi commodity distribution project team, directed market analysis and formulation of the business plan and organisational structure for each location. This role fostered incisive understanding of hedging strategy for a diverse global sugar business - from the white sugar risk management for our Brazilian mills to coaching the very young trading team in South East Asia on correct positioning and hedging our Thai origination book. Valuable insights were gained into the rightsizing of physical and futures plays - to avoid over-stressing the system and risking unacceptable failure or reduced agility to enter and exit a particular strategy. -
