Reporting to the Tereos Group Executive Committee. Appointed to inaugurate and lead a globally dispersed merchandising, distribution and trading unit. • Developed a culturally mixed, intensely cohesive global team of over 40 people. Established three destination/distribution offices, one administrative office and two origination structures. By March 2019 we had built a trading book of 1.4 million tonnes, establishing Tereos as the third largest white sugar trading business in the world.• Directed the global sugar cash and derivative trading strategies as well as all FX risk positions. Monitored, assessed and adjusted to the macroeconomic, political, fund, speculative and cross commodity influences on the market.• Executive member of Brazilian and European Business Unit Risk Management teams determining the derivatives pricing strategy for the Group. Board Member of Distribuidora Nacional de Acucar (DNA), Mozambique, the sole entity looking after the domestic distribution of the sugar produced by the three milling Groups in Mozambique. • Created, continually reviewed and optimised the evolution of the financial model of equity, working capital and bank lines required as business grew. Managed the necessarily high-level relationships with banks and built trade finance lines of over USD 200 million over 5 years.• Defined and refined the risk policies and procedures of the trading unit, including the communication protocol with Group.• Led the project team that specified user requirements, appraised and selected the Commodity Trading and Risk Management (CTRM) software system and trading platform. Drove project implementation and continual improvement of the system.• Managed an operations improvement project alongside Mews Management Consultants and Bollore Logistic. Business processes were benchmarked against sugar industry best practice as well as those of other industries moving large volumes of product in smaller consignments.
