Gis Software Engineer
CurrentContracted to Chugach Electric Association (CEA) as a GIS Analyst/Programmer and as a GIS Specialist to develop, test, and maintain the GIS data and environment. This system utilizes ESRI ArcGIS with Schneider Electric ArcFM extensions to model the electrical network. Oracle is the primary database backend with a few instances of SQL Server. ChangeGear is used for ticketing. Atlassian’s BitBucket software hosts internal Git source control repositories, and Atlassian’s Confluence is used for wiki documentation. Many Virtual Machines are in use and access is provided through VMWare Horizon.• Build an easily maintainable solution with System and Network Administrators for GIS users and developers to manage the GIS model of the greater Anchorage area’s electrical network.• Develop for ArcGIS/ArcFM system in .NET and Python.• Drive use of continuous integration by implementing a more complete version control solution through BitBucket and Git. Encourage code review and automated testing.• Audit wide variety of existing custom tools with minimal previous documentation. Create new and update existing documentation including test procedures. Update installer code to reliably update GIS software.• Collaborate with CTG and CEA leadership to develop new business solutions• Using Python and Safe Software’s FME Workbench extensively, develop facets of a system to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from an Autodesk / Oracle Spatial environment to CEA’s ArcGIS / ArcFM environment in support of a merger with the municipal electric utility, Municipal Light and Power (MLP).• Manually integrate data and processes acquired as part of the merger.• Work closely with all departments to ensure maps and data are appropriately updated and modified so all staff, including formerly MLP, can easily understand and utilize information from the GIS to do their job efficiently.
