I focused on understanding the important role acute (e.g., sudden increase or decrease) and chronic (e.g., high altitude acclimatization) changes in oxygen delivery can play in modifying exercise performance and perceived fatigability – developing a critical understanding of key contributors to exercise tolerance (or lack thereof). Astoundingly, my Editor’s Choice Awarded work demonstrated that human beings ‘normal’ adjustment of oxygen delivery to exercise is not optimized to support muscle function – demonstrating the potential (or perhaps the need) to develop strategies to augment human exercise performance.
