I apply my knowledge and skills to manage various diseases and syndromes. I communicate with my team members, consult medical staff, administer medications, and carry-out patient care. I also have become competent with using equipment and computer systems (ie. Cerner, PCIS) in the clinical setting. Many of the patients have substance use disorders and behavioral complexity which makes the position challenging yet, rewarding. My biggest takeaway from this position is that focused teamwork and clear communication lead to higher job satisfaction and improved safety.

As part of the VCH Immunizations Clinics I worked with physicians, dentists, pharmacists, midwives, and other nurses to deliver COVID-19 vaccines to the community. I developed strong interdisciplinary working relationships with my colleagues while vaccinating clients at the clinic. As part of my practice, I obtained informed consent by educating clients on the different products offered at the clinic, the potential side effects of the products, and empowering clients to make the right choice for their health.

Working with a well-known researcher, Carole Orchard, at Western University, I learned to work with SPSS software to scrub and analyze data on a new diabetes survey instrument for understanding the challenges of diabetes on a personal level within the community around London as well as globally. I improved upon my work ethic in this time and increased my literacy within the research sphere.

The tasks of the job involved communicating with clients and fellow staff with the goal of delivering a quality product whether that be a perfected sandwiched or latte. I had the opportunity to mentor new staff and introduce them to success in the café environment.
