About Patrick Exner

In nearly 25 years in education, I have been honored to serve as a teacher, Principal, Adjunct University Professor and as an Academic Director at both the site and district levels. I have helped lead schools as small as 150 students to large metro school districts. I am proud of the state level work that I have done to further the mission for school choice and equity in education. Ultimately, I provide innovative leadership through development of creative school programming, visionary strategic planning and a passion for closing racial disparities in education.My educational philosophy is rooted in assisting parents in their primary responsibility of educating their child. Teachers, as facilitators of learning, have a vital role providing educational expertise that addresses the intellectual, emotional, social, moral and physical needs of the child. We build school communities where all are welcome, all belong and all are valued. In educating the whole child, schools produce students of joy, purpose and hope.My passion, practice and research has been around providing authentic learning environments for all students. I am very proud of co-creating a Multi-Cultural Giftedness Class for Saint Mary's University of the Twin Cities which I taught for over ten years. The class focused on the overrepresentation of students of color in Special Education and underrepresentation of students of color in Honors programs. The systemic change necessary to close these racial disparities. This class lead to facilitating workshops at a variety of districts throughout the metro area on Culturally Responsive Leadership and Cultural Humility. This work carried over to speaking at national education conferences and partnerships with local colleges. During this time, I observed and coached hundreds of teachers.
