I left USAA in April 2021 and am semi-retired. I'm not actively looking for work, but would be open to considering part-time work or short-term (3 months or less) consulting engagements.

I work as a software development engineer for the life insurance unit of USAA, mostly Java EE development for WebSphere and OpenShift environments. I work remotely from New York.

I worked as a contractor to USAA for Apex Systems, doing software development in their Life and Health unit.

I received a Master's degree in Mathematics with a certificate in Quantitative Finance.

 2012-2015: As a contractor with the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) team, I led or participated in supporting many online imaging applications for this Fortune 500 insurance and financial services company. I provided ASP.NET, VB.NET and SQL Server programming support and administration of the Enterprise Document Viewer (EDV) online application, including interface with FileNet web services, and I developed a custom C# application for FileNet XT.I administered the Adobe LiveCycle WebSphere application server (v9.0) and customer applications, and also helped develop a custom LiveCycle application for the ECM team. I administered the IBM Business Process Manager (BPM) application server (v7.5) and customer business process applications. I also supported the Biscom Delivery Server (BDS) online application, and provided some FileNet and Kofax support as needed.2004-2012:As a Senior Middleware Engineer, I helped support the firm's enterprise messaging infrastructure. I Installed, upgraded, monitored and managed the firm’s large set of WebSphere MQ queue managers and QPasa monitoring services. I also helped install, upgrad, monitor and manag the firm's WebSphere Message Brokers and helped develop message flows for the Broker. I also provided some WebSphere Application Server (WAS) support.I installed and administered the firm's .NET shared environment, including an IIS 7 web farm running on Windows 2008 servers in a VMWare ESX hypervisor. I also installed and administered the firm's ServiceNet (now Apigee) XML Gateway servers and provided support for internal and external web services.I helped support the firm’s security and identity management applications, including IBM’s family of LDAP-related applications such as Directory Server (ITDS), Tivoli Access Manager (TAM) , WebSEAL, Tivoli Identity Manager (iTIM) and IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator (ITDI).

I provided Tier 2 worldwide database support and problem resolution for Microsoft Licensing, GP, the unit responsible for Microsoft’s global enterprise licensing and fulfillment. I worked with 500 Gbyte data warehouses in a clustered environment with emphasis on DTS and T-SQL.I also worked on web pages for internal administrative use, featuring graphics, chart components, C#.

I enhanced administrative reporting systems for this worldwide leader in credit card processing services. In particular, I enhanced the internal Credit Managament web sites and converted one to ASP.NetI specialized in FoxPro, Visual Basic and ASP development.

I provided client support and pre-sales technical support for a start-up firm.I developed software prototypes and demos to illustrate the power of our iMercury enterprise messaging software. I researched Java security, JMS and related issues. I worked with our MQ Series and Tibco – iMercury adapters, designed and developed our file adapter, and I helped design an RMI server with distributed trust store for Fortune 500 client. I also provided first-line technical support for customers and prospects.

I converted their Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) software application from FoxPro to Visual Basic 6.0. I designed and implemented an Access 97 database as the back end, and added numerous enhancements and improvements. I also wrote user and technical documentation, while providing user and technical training.

As a Solutions Developer with this dot-com and mid-market software development and professional services firm, I worked on various projects. Among other projects, I led a team that worked on a Java-based state-of-the-art system for financial exchanges & futures markets using CORBA, MQSeries and LDAP.I developed a Wireless Internet web site for a NYC-based financial services start-up. I developed internal administrative wireless applications including Phone Directory and Outlook mail/scheduling app’s for WAP-enabled mobile devices.I also worked on a WebLogic app server development project for a major consumer book-selling firm.
