Working Remotely And In A Hybrid Setting

As a policy analyst with Natural Resources Canada, I have had the opportunity to provide input to various projects related to the oil and gas sector, in particular the oil sands: the development of the Oil Sands Effluents Mining Regulations, as a technical expert on water use and water treatment, the Oil Sands Emissions Cap and proposed carbon intensity policies in the context of Net Zero by 2050, the impact of OIl Sands developments on the Wood Buffalo National Park, multi department discussions about the creation of the Canadian Water Agency, Energy security in the context of the Ukraine war, and many other interesting files.

In the Upstream Oil and Gas section of ECCC I've been providing technical to the methane regulations and to carbon pricing for that sector. I also provided technical support to the issue of methane and hydrogen sulphide from orphaned oil and gas wells in Canada. I managed a contract with a Scientist from McGill University on the presence of hydrogen sulphide in abandoned wells in southwestern Ontario, in the context of COVID restrictions.

As a project Engineer (ENG3) I was involved in implementing the Ozone-depleting Substances and Halocarbon Alternatives Regulations , Last Amended on April 16, 2018. I'm responsible for analyzing data obtained through the reporting cycle for that regulation. (i.e. permits submissions and yearly reporting). I prepared some research on products subject to a special exemption from the regulations for essential use such as bear spray (for safety) and dust cleaners for fire alarm panels.

As a project engineer (ENG3) with the Mining and Processing Division, I worked closely with the sector leads for Metals and minerals Processing sectors (Cement, Iron and Steel, Aluminum), Regulatory Development (for metal and coal mining) and other divisions of ECCC on building strong technical background (process documentation, emission or water release data analysis, etc), for supporting the development of regulatory and non-regulatory instruments, such as the amended metal mining effluent Regulations (MMER), the Coal Mining Effluent Regulations (CMER), The Multi Sectorial Air Pollutants Regulations (MSAPR), but also the code of Practice for Aluminum Smelters, the Pollution Prevention Plan for Iron and Steel Industries. I have also been providing support to the development of Output-Based Performance Standards (OBPS) for Greenhouse gas from the Lime and Cement Sectors by participating to working groups and developing calculation methods for Emission Intensities.

Working as an AS-05 for 3 years, I was responsible for the coordination of corporate reports -i.e. helping directorate planners report, briefing my supervisor and the ADM in order to get review and approval. I also provided logistic support to my ADM,such as the floor planning, the management of confidential information needing licences, corporate reporting of activities from 3 directorates (MBAD, Climate Change International and the Americas) and general ad hoc demands that land on the ADM's desk, and also preparing memos for the Advisor to the ADM on G&Cs, Budgets, and corporate reporting issues.

As an Eng-03, I had been developing new estmation methods for pollutants, such as particulates from construction activities, upstream Oil and gas, refuelling at service stations. I had been supervising students and contractors and colleagues to assist me with these challenges. I also have replaced an ENG-4 in coordinating a working group for the development of Air Pollution trends, in collaboration with AB, BC, ON and QC, validating output from the provincial stakeholders and also trying to develop estimation methods applicable in all provinces. I also participated to a team preparing pollution prevention plans for various substances, including mercury from end-of life vehicles, and analyzed the impact of various Pollution Prevention plans on emission trends.

Translation of a guide for teaching technical specification on windows and doors (acoustics, mechanical properties, standards applied, etc) from English to French. This guide was used for training professionnals.

I tought various subjects: home economy, physical sciences, physics, arts, career choice, iinitiation to technology. For all, I have prepared lesson plans and evaluations, as well as performing the in-class teaching and some disciplin and extracurricular activities such as a field trip in Gatineau Park. I followed the Quebec and also the Ontario Program as much as possible.

I performed analysis of the impact of alternative fuels such as ethanols using SAE publications and others; I've also been investigating statistical methods for estimating the significance of emissions testing results.
