I joined the Sales and Sales Management community with a very different background than most. I entered through the Education field. In general, people start out in the business world then go into teaching. I reversed the process and I feel it has given me a very unique outlook on the industry as a whole. I have always looked at an individual sale as teaching someone about the products that I have and how they can solve the problem that they came in looking to correct. I always explained it to my family and friends that I really received a degree in speaking and work in the explanation industry. I spent eight years with Mattress Firm and at different points was a manager of up to 6 stores, a regional trainer, and a traveling market specialist who would open up new markets or transition companies that we had purchased into the culture of Mattress Firm.For two years I was an Internet Sales Manager with Duval Ford and loved the differences that the technology provided to my skillset. Finding ways to connect people with either their dream car, the one that will get them from a to b, or the vehicle that will help them keep the lights on and their family fed was an exciting journey. I learned how to transfer some of my verbal communication skills into the virtual and written world.My current undertakings have brought me to the world of Insurance and Finance. It is obviously still sales but it is such a different lens through which to do it. Helping provide people the peace of mind that they desire during either their absolute worst times in their life (insurance necessary ones), or their best (retiring with all they need) is an absolute blast.
