Research AssistantHaney Lab May 2021 - Jun 2022Veterans Hall UncwUsing solid phase peptide synthesis I assembled peptide chains with various mutations that were then purified using HPLC and identified with mass spectrometry. Using UV-Vis and CD spectroscopy I was able to determine the concentration of the desired peptide which could then be analyzed to visualize the interactions the secondary structure participated in, particularly in dimerization and membrane binding kinetics.

Research AssistantAlmeida Lab May 2021 - Jan 2022Veterans Hall UncwIn order to analyze the mutant peptide chains (Lysette I) made in collaboration with Dr. Haney's Research Lab, fluorescent spectroscopy must be employed to understand the binding kinetics of the peptide. The two scenarios analyzed were the energy of dimerization between two of the peptide helices in solution as well as peptide binding to a vesicle membrane. Based off of the CD spectrum obtained with Dr. Haney, the latter was hypothesized to be the more favorable interaction for the peptide to participate in.
