I am acting Director of the Centre for Health Equity Training, Research and Evaluation, UNSW, Australia, and South Western Sydney Local Health District. I am an applied public health social scientist focussed on healthy public policy. My work crosses sectors and disciplines while retaining a core focus on health and equity. My research is pioneering the connections between health, political science and critical theory, and I have particular interest in institutions and power. My research includes climate change, urban and regional planning systems, infrastructure planning and appraisal, and impact assessment. I am strategic advisor to Sweltering Cities, and past president of the NSW Branch of the Public Health Association of Australia. I am the founding co-editor-in-chief of the new Oxford University Press flagship open access journal ‘Infrastructure and Health’. I have been a chief investigator on $9 million in research funding, including NHMRC and ARC, and consultancy projects in Australia and internationally, including for the World Health Organisation. I have written 160 publications including 80 journal articles, plus media pieces in outlets like The Conversation. My book, ‘Illuminating policy for health’, has recently been published by Palgrave MacMillan.
