Patrick Howard is the most senior graphic arts journalist in Australia and New Zealand. He is the founding publisher of the leading trade magazine, Print21.After Tracy Yaffa of Yaffa Media bought the title in May 2018, he moved across as Publishing Editor to the company's Surry Hills office. He currently contributes to the magazine in the role of Editor at large.A dedicated observer and analyst of the printing and the graphic arts industries he has been engaged in the sector for more than 25 years. A professional journalist and editor of long-standing, he has reported on and witnessed most of the important developments, technology launches and trade shows in recent times. In the course of his graphic arts career he has visited the headquarters and manufacturing plants of most of the leading industry suppliers on four continents. He has met and interviewed almost all of the significant industry figures over the past two decades.He devotes a considerable amount of his time to industry organisations; Print21 is the official publication of the Printing Industry of Australia, the premiere representative industry body. Andy McCourt was Associate Editorn and Graham Osborne was News Editor before they both left to make room for Wayne Robinson as editor. He was editor of competitive titles for more than a decade. Jake Nelson is Labels and Industrial Print Editor. Doris Prodanovic is promotions and advertising executive. The new team is settling in.Print21 is the official magazine of the Printing Industries Association of Australia, the premier representative body of the printing industry. It is published six time a year.

Managing EditorPrint21 Jan 2002 - Dec 2007Founding editor of Print21 magazine. In addition to an industry wide circulation is the official publication of the Printing Industry Association of Australia (Printing Industries). It set out to be a business magazine for the graphic arts industry, with quality editorial and production values, not simply another printing trade magazine.I like to think we succeeded. Simon Enticknap took over as editor in 2005 after Andy McCourt had replaced me as founding editor in 2003. Simon produced some marvellous magazines up to 2014, when he gave it away to focus on other endeavours. (We're now collegial editors at Yaffa Media.) Andy came back on board then until the title was sold to Yaffa Media in 2018.

Throughout the 1990s Australian Printer was the definitive printing trade magazine, owned by Ann & Paul Callahan. Good owners, great staff - we had a ball. Throughout the decade it was a marvellous publication, packed full of news, articles and importantly, advertisements. Then Ann and Paul sold it for a motza. Well done all concerned.

Publisher/ Managing EditorCity Express Newspaper/On The Street 1979 - 1984Along with my partner, Patrick Cusick, we pioneered mid-city weekly newspapers and rock'n'roll freebies in Sydney. Noel Crabbe came on as an investment partner and it all went swimmingly for many years until the wheels came off later down the track. Michael Mohi, now with Spot Press, was a joint venturer with a magazine called Bright Lights.It was a wild time… no one's marriage survived and we're lucky no one died.Greetings and good wishes to all who sailed with me.
