After turning 60 in 2019, I gave notice to the project manager contract with NBN, hoping to take a long sabbatical to focus on my interests of fashion, design and architecture. Two events since then catapulted me to a new direction. The first is taking ownership of a level 50 apartment in Sydney CBD. My talent went overdrive in decorating it in my signature style. The second is the Covid lockdown banishing my rental income to zero. My financial predicament was bleak with no help on the horizon. Out of financial necessity, I listed my new apartment in booking.com under the name Sydney CBD Cosmopolitan Apartment and never looked back.From day one, I set my sight to completing with the 5 star hotels in the Sydney CBD. I love Sydney CBD, my hometown since 2004 and I have made it my mission to ensure every guests staying in Sydney Cosmopolitan CBD Apartment have the best experience this harbour city could provide. My years of project management experience came handy in launching the venture and building up the brand, particularly in stakeholders and quality management.Guests are my key stakeholders. I want them to feel being looked after from the time a booking is received to the time they checki out, and yet their privacy is always upmost important. Guests are communicated at appropriate times to ascertain what would make their stay more comfortable, e.g. older Japanese guests who would not find breakfast including cheese agreeable, would be provided with Miso, kimchi and rice as part of the self-serving continental breakfast.Quality encompasses many aspects. My focus are my signature modern classical design differentiating my apartment from the competitors. Just as important is to make sure the apartment is cleansed to the level that guests would think it is a new apartment set up for their personal use. It has been heart-warming to see what my effort has delivered in the last two years. Over 150 guests have provided reviews and 80% rated 10 out of 10 and the rest no less than 8 out of 10. The average rating has been 9.6 out of 10 for the last two years earning me the barge of preferred partner with booking.com and booking.com Traveller Review Awards two years in a row.The most gratifying aspect of these reviews is the mentioning of “Patrick” by many of the guests. I hope this means my services to guests have left a positive and endurable impression. I wonder how can I elevate this impression to a personal branding!My next challenge is to add more values that could result in merchandising under the brand.
